General surgery procedures at the AIWA Clinic

AIWA Clinic performs both paid and state-funded surgeries. Among the most popular surgeries in the field of general surgery are surgeries to remove various hernias, gallstones, as well as surgery for gastroesophageal reflux disease.

The clinic offers the following general surgery procedures

Laparoscopic surgery of anterior abdominal wall hernias

A hernia is a protrusion of internal organs or deep tissues through weak areas of the abdominal musculature. Three-quarters of all hernias are in the groin, which is an anatomically weak area.

Laparoscopic surgeries are widely used in the treatment of hernias and are considered effective because they allow the patients to quickly return to their usual physical activities. For laparoscopic operations, special mesh made of synthetic material is used, which strengthens the weak muscle area from the inside.

When treating hernias, the technique of closing the hernia is often used, but this method has significant drawbacks, such as stretching the tissues, which may be associated with the risks of recurrent hernia.

An additional reason for the wider use of laparoscopic surgery in modern medicine is the significantly reduced recovery time. Compared to the technique of closing the hernia, after laparoscopic surgery, the patient can return to physical activity in 2-3 weeks, whereas after the technique of closing the hernia, the recovery time can take up to six months.

Laparoscopic diaphragmatic hernia repair and GERD surgery

A hiatal hernia is a major cause of reflux disease. In the case of diaphragmatic hernia, there is a burning sensation in the chest, sore throat, belching. If the disease is not treated in time, esophageal cancer can develop. AIWA Clinic surgeons perform this operation laparoscopically through small incisions in the anterior abdominal wall, inserting a camera and instruments. Postoperative results (over ten years) show that 88-93% of patients do not experience recurrence of reflux or other gastrointestinal problems after surgery.

AIWA Clinic offers patients surgical treatment of gallstones or laparoscopic cholecystectomy. Although there is an opinion that “if the stones in the gallbladder do not interfere, they should not be touched”, each patient should behave responsibly with their health and know that if they delay the treatment of gallstone disease, then there may be a greater risk to health and the treatment period will also last.

Complications that can occur with delayed treatment of gallstones include necrotic (dead tissue) formation in the liver and pancreas, which is more difficult to treat and can be life-threatening.

Therefore, in the case of malaise or symptoms, the patient is advised to consult with a doctor and perform the necessary diagnostic procedures to develop the most appropriate treatment plan for the patient.

The patient should immediately consult a doctor if:

• pain of varying intensity (from mild to sudden, severe pain) appears in the right hypochondrium or the abdomen. Pain is sometimes reflected in the right shoulder or back;

• nausea and vomiting are common;

• the patient has the regular feeling of heaviness in the abdomen or bloating;

• the patient has jaundice of the skin and sclera of the eyes, dark urine, light stools.

Our patients trust AIWA Clinic because the clinic staff ensures the highest quality at all stages of the treatment process – from registration at the clinic to the client’s discharge. Surgical and medical procedures are carried out following the highest European standards, which guarantees the effectiveness and achievement of treatment results for our patients. By choosing the medical care of the specialists of our clinic, you will make a far-sighted contribution to your quality of life and health.

Laparoscopic appendectomy is an operation that removes the appendix if it becomes inflamed. The main symptom of appendicitis is abdominal pain, which may initially be around the navel, but then in the lower right abdomen.

Appendectomy can be performed in a minimally invasive (laparoscopic) manner. During laparoscopic surgery, the appendix is removed through small incisions in the anterior abdominal wall using a camera. The advantages of laparoscopic appendectomy are a relatively better cosmetic result, less pain after surgery, and the ability to quickly return to normal routines.

This is a minimally invasive procedure in which a video camera is inserted into the abdominal cavity for closer examination. This procedure is performed in case of unclear diagnoses, for example, with chronic pain in the abdomen, small pelvis.

Abdominoplasty is performed when there are excess skin folds in the anterior abdominal wall after weight loss or pregnancy. It is a cosmetic procedure performed with or without umbilical transposition.

Classic hernia operations of the anterior abdominal wall

Classical operations on the hernia of the anterior abdominal wall are performed when, for technical reasons, laparoscopic operations cannot be performed, with repeated operations in the abdominal cavity, when a massive adhesion process is formed. During these surgeries, synthetic materials are used to cover the hernial defect.

Surgeries of benign skin and subcutaneous growths

Operations of benign skin and subcutaneous growths are performed when formations such as lipomas, fibromas, sebaceous glands, papillomas, nevi (moles) grow on or under the skin. Such surgeries are performed under local or intravenous anesthesia, depending on the volume.

Operations on the thyroid gland are performed in cases when neoplasms or nodules form in the thyroid gland, in cases of inflammation.

The most common symptoms are difficulty swallowing, an enlarged thyroid gland. If you notice these symptoms, you should see an endocrinologist.

Neoplasms can be benign and malignant, so it is very important to diagnose and operate on time.

Laparoscopic colon surgeries are performed when there are benign formations in the colon, including large polyps, diverticulosis of the colon with complications (inflammation, perforation, bleeding). It’s important to remember that any polyp can turn into colon cancer. The operations are performed laparoscopically, which allows for a shorter recovery period.

Patients trust AIWA Clinic because the clinic’s personnel ensure the highest quality in all the medical treatment process stages – starting with the patient’s registration at the clinic until the patient’s recovery and checkout from the clinic. All the surgical and treatment procedures are performed according to the highest European standards, this way ensuring efficiency and successful medical treatment results for our patients. Choosing our clinic’s specialist medical care, you will make a long-term investment in your health.
